Dear Prayer
Team,
It is a
balmy
Saturday
night here
in San Jose
. I have
just
returned
from taking
Elizabeth
and Bill to
a youth
worship
service. On
the walk
home, I
topped a
hill and
looked out
at the
mountains
that
surround the
city. The
lights of
the city
spill up the
sides of the
mountains on
all sides
and it is a
beautiful
sight. I
was reminded
of Jesus'
words about
how a city
on a hill
cannot be
hidden. I
thought
about how
much I want
the love of
Jesus to
shine out of
our lives as
we struggle
to adjust to
a new place
and
lifestyle.
Pray that
above all,
Jesus would
shine out of
us as we
move through
our daily
schedule of
school,
practice,
homework,
and
parenting.
It has been
a very
challenging
week for
us. Our
teachers are
wonderful,
but they are
committed to
stretching
us far as
they can in
order to
improve our
language
skills. I
am thankful
for that but
it does make
for some
very long
days.
The children
seem to be
adjusting
pretty well
and are
definitely
staying
busy. In
addition to
school and
Spanish,
they are
involved in
soccer,
gymnastics,
and
basketball.
They are
definitely
learning a
new way of
life as
their days
start a
little
before 6 in
the morning
and they
collapse in
bed between
9 and 10.
Our prayer
requests
this week
revolve
around
making the
transition
to our new
school
schedule and
a life as
students.
Jan and I
are both
feeling a
lot pressure
as we try to
keep up with
our school
and keep the
family
running
smoothly.
Pray for
deep
reserves of
strength and
great time
management
as we try to
juggle a
whole herd
of cats.
We also
would like
to ask you
to be
praying for
our Jan's
Dad and my
Mom. Both
have been
experiencing
some health
problems
over the
last little
while. Pray
that test
results will
come back
with good
news and
that new
medications
will do the
jobs as they
are designed
to do.
We thank God
for each of
you and
thank you
for praying
for us.
In Him,
The Cook
